Ginseng can alleviate anaphylactic shock induced by guinea pig serum and prolong its survival time. The death of scalded shock mice can be obviously delayed. It can promote the recovery of normal life activities for dogs in hemorrhagic and asphyxial critical condition. For animals with hemorrhagic acute circulatory failure, ginseng can significantly increase the heart beat amplitude and heart rate. In the case of heart failure, the cardiotonic effect is more significant. Pre-administration of ginseng fruit saponin can obviously prolong the survival time of hemorrhagic shock dogs, prevent the damage of myocardial membrane, nuclear membrane and mitochondria of hemorrhagic shock myocardial cells, and protect the heart, brain, kidney and liver of shock animals. Ginseng fruit saponin and ginseng reed head saponin also have protective effects on tissues such as heart, liver and lung in hemorrhagic shock. Ginseng extract (red ginseng, sugar ginseng, 20% ethanol percolation, 1: 1 concentration) has the effect of anti-insulin shock, while ginseng total saponin has the effect of promoting insulin shock. Shenmai injection (ginseng, dwarf lilyturf tuber) has good effect on experimental endotoxic shock in mice and rats, relieving diarrhea and fever symptoms, and improving peripheral blood picture and reticuloendothelial system function. It suggests that it is a good activator of reticuloendothelial system function.


Effect on liver


Ginseng can increase the enzyme activity of the liver to metabolize various substances and enhance the detoxification ability of the liver, thus enhancing the tolerance of the body to various chemical substances. Experiments show that ginseng can increase the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase in liver, shorten the anesthesia time of alcohol on rabbits and dogs, and reduce the alcohol level in blood of rabbits quickly. Some reports point out that ginseng can not only enhance the detoxification function of liver, but also has the effect of anti-liver injury. Ginsenoside can alleviate liver injury and transaminase caused by carbon tetrachloride. It has also been reported that ginsenoside can not only reduce the elevation of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase activity in rabbits caused by carbon tetrachloride, but also reduce the changes of liver tissue in rabbits caused by other poisons, such as thioacetamide. The research results on the anti-liver toxicity of ginsenoside and some structure-effect relationships found that red ginseng probably has stronger anti-liver toxicity activity than white ginseng.


Influence on Material Metabolism


Experiments prove that ginseng has inhibitory effect on normal blood sugar and hyperglycemia caused by injection of epinephrine and hypertonic glucose. For alloxan-induced diabetes in male rats, it can control blood sugar level, but cannot prevent its onset and death. It also has effect on alloxan diabetes in mice. It has certain inhibitory effect on experimental diabetic hyperglycemia in dogs, but cannot completely correct its metabolic disorder. There are also reports that different ginsenoside monomers of ginseng can resist the effects of epinephrine, ACTH and glucagon and enhance the effect of insulin on glucose metabolism.
